Dosan Ahn Chang-Ho Memorial

Within the Main Street pedestrian mall in downtown Riverside (3750 Main St.) is a memorial to Dosan Ahn Chang-Ho. As described in a recent Riverside press release, Dosan Ahn Chang Ho founded Pachappa Camp, home to 300 Koreans, while working in the Riverside citrus industry in 1905.  He later returned to Korea and became a leader in the Korean independence movement to liberate his country from Japanese occupation. He is regarded as the father of democracy in Korea and is revered in his homeland.  The primary sculpture was made by Moon Kyung Kim and was completed in 2001.  It is part of the peace walk of prominent civil rights leaders along the pedestrian mall. More background on the memorial and the walk can be found in a video made recently by the city of Riverside.
