Arlington Business District Electrical Boxes

Several electrical boxes along Magnolia Ave. in the Arlington Village area of Riverside have been covered with vinyl wraps emphasizing the history of the area and the Arlington Business District. The boxes are along Magnolia Ave. north of Van Buren Blvd. For example, there is one at the intersection of Magnolia Ave. and Douglas Ave (9194 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA).  Another one is at the intersection of Magnolia Ave. and Jackson St. (9111 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA). Arlington Village Bus Stop Art

The Arlington Village bus stop on Magnolia near Jackson Street (9229 Magnolia Ave., Riverside CA) has an attractive picture depicting part of an old orange crate label. A picture of the complete Monte Vista Brand label can be seen in the Los Angeles Public Library digital collection.  The designer of the bus stop is unknown as is the artist who designed the orange crate label.

Tacos Tacos y Antojitos Mural

My wife and I tried out Tacos Tacos y Antojitos (6461 Brockton Ave, Riverside, CA), a new (to us) casual  Mexican restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a mural on one of its interior walls.  The mural is signed but it is hard to read. It looks like Easasi Setruel.

America 250 Mixed Media Display on Alessandro Blvd.

A mixed media art display commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence has been constructed along Alessandro Blvd. near the intersection with Trautwein Road.  the America 250 display has 250 painted on concrete and red, white and blue flowers planted in the shape of an American flag.  The designer is unknown.

America 250 Floral Display

In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Riverside has constructed a number of patriotic displays.  This one at the corner of 14th street and the 91 onramp is simple and made up of red, white and blue flowers.  The designer and gardener are unknown.

The Refreshed "The Grandessa Azteca" Mural at Villegas Park

The north-facing mural on the handball court and adjacent to the pickleball court in Villegas Park (3091 Esperanza St., Riverside) has recently been re-painted with more color and additional detail.  The murals are signed Jimbo Sloe Alfred Jasmine Freddy 26.  Jim "Jimbo" Gutierrez (@jimbogutierreztattoos) led the effort assisted by Sloe  (@sloe_motions), Alfred Zaragoza (@maddtatterz) and possibly others. The mural is entitled, "The Grandessa Azteca" and is based on a tragic ancient Aztec love story. It was originally painted in 1980, restored in 2018, and more recently 2026.

Palm Tree-sporting Electrical Box on Jurupa Ave.

An electrical box, at the corner of Jurupa Ave. and Riverside Ave. (5790 Riverside Ave, Riverside, CA), has recently been painted in orange and yellow with pictures of branches of leaves, palm trees and the sun.  The artist was Katya Orovie @orlovie, a local muralist and painter.

De Anza Theater History on Electrical Box

The history of the De Anza Theater with lots of photos is described on a nearby electrical box (4225 Market St, Riverside, CA).  The building now houses Clark's Nutrition, a Natural Foods Market. It joins a number of similar historical descriptions on other boxes downtown.  The designer and author are unknown.

Sculpture of Antique Farm Equipment at Farm House Collective

A new sculpture constructed of old shovels, pitchforks, horseshoes and other old garden or farm tools is now on display at the Farm House Collective (1393 University Ave, Riverside, CA).  The artist is not identified.

"Plant One on Me" Mixed Media Display at the Farm House Collective

A new mixed media display has been displayed at the Farm House Collective (1393 University Ave, Riverside, CA).  It combines a writing attached to a metal frame, plants and a roster sculpture and displays the worlds "Plant One of Me".  The artist is not identified.

Rutland Park Mural

A large, bright and colorful mural has recently been painted at Rutland Park (7000 Rutland Ave, Riverside, CA).   It was painted by local muralist Mano Mirande @_mano_man_.

Memorial to American Indian Veterans Completed

The Memorial to American Indian Veterans has now been completed and the sculpture entitled The Gift made by sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg has been installed at the Riverside National Cemetery (22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside). The statue of a dignified native American wrapped in a Continental flag holding a Jefferson Medal - a token of peace and friendship between the US Government and the Indian tribes is now located at a prominent area near the Veterans Memorial Amphitheater.  More information about the statue and memorial can be found here and a series of videos about it can be found through the Schomberg studio website.  A previous post with photos of the statue before the repainting can be found here and here.

Riverside County Office of Education Mural

An attractive new mural has recently been painted on the side of the building housing the Riverside County Office of Education (3610 14th St, Riverside, CA). As shown below, it shows three children playing, learning and building.  It was painted by Juan Navarro @luvmonsterz.

New Purple Electrical Box on Olivewood Ave.

An electrical box, at the corner of Olivewood Ave. and Ramona Dr. (3401 Ramona Dr. Riverside), has recently been painted in purple with pictures of leaves, bougainvillea and olives (a nod to its location?).  The artist was Katya Orovie @orlovie, a local muralist and painter.

Alleyway Mural of Young Mexican-American Woman

One of the central murals along the alleyway just off of Loma Vista Street near Ottawa Ave. in the Eastside area of Riverside (1948 Loma Vista Street) was painted by Andrea Lopez @art.by.andrealopez.  It is a lovely mural that features a painting of a woman and combines images from the artist's roots in Mexico and those of her life in Riverside. It is entitled, "Hija del Maiz" or Daughter of Corn. The artist narrates a nice reel that gives some background to the mural on the Eastside Arthouse Instagram page @eastsidearthouse. She recently received a fellowship from the California Arts Council which was spotlighted in a Raincross Gazette article.
