New Floral Mural Next to Tony's Market

A new floral mural has been painted on the wall next to Tony's Market (4098 Park Ave, Riverside, CA) in the Park Avenue Arts District.  The mural is unsigned but according to a post by Juan Navarro @luvmonsterz who presumably designed and directed the project, it was painted by a group of volunteers from U.S. Bank.  The mural is adjacent to the house of Juanita Bigelow whose father was the original owner of Tony's market, and features calla lillies and gladiola flowers reminiscent of flowers which were brought by her father from San Clemente for sale in the Eastside neighborhood.

Blooms by Lupita Flower Shop Mural

A new flower shop, Blooms by Lupita @bloomsbylupita, is opening on 14th Street (2880 14th St, Riverside, CA). Its exterior has been painted by Juan Navarro @luvmonsterz with an attractive flower and Monarch butterfly motif.  It becomes the latest addition to the cluster of murals on or very close to Park Ave. Another of Juan Navarro's murals is just to the east of the shop.

El Trigo Restaurant Mural

On the side of El Trigo Restaurant (4155 Park Ave., Riverside) is a dramatic mural featuring a Latina woman among sheaves of wheat and floral embroidery.  The unsigned mural was painted by Rosy Cortez (@paintedrosy) in collaboration with Juan Navarro (@luvmonsterz).  This is part of the remarkable Park Avenue Revitalization Project. It was briefly described in a Press Enterprise article by Frances J. Vasquez saying The mural "was painted by portrait artist Rosana Cortez with Navarro’s help. It showcases the artistry of Mexican floral embroidery and the visage of a beautiful Latina with a red rose in her hair — framed with wheat sprigs and illuminated by a brilliant moon."

Arci's Murals

On the side of Arci's Party Supply store (2870 University Avenue, Riverside), six murals were created as part of the University and Park Avenue Mural Project.  As described on the Riverside Art Museum website, the project "brought together six artists to engage with the community to design and create a mural reflective of the aspirations of local residents. The community chose the following themes: unity, peace, harmony, multicultural appreciation, and family celebration across cultures. Artists worked from September 8–September 22, 2021 to complete this community mural."

Juan Navarro (@luvmonsterz) was the lead artist on Project and the other participating artists were Adrian Boyer, John Cuevas (@johncuevasstudio), C. Matthew Luther (@cmatthewluther), Robin Luther (@robinlutherphoto), Daniel Toledo (@mister_toledo) and @dretty.  They worked together to create this new community mural located at the gateway to the Eastside.  Update: May 14, 2026 Arci's has apparently moved or gone out of business and the murals are being removed (see last photo).

Parrot and Butterfly Mural on Park Avenue

The side of the building housing the El Triunfo market and Gloria's Beauty Salon at 4104 Park Avenue, Riverside has been painted with a bright eye-catching mural containing a colorful parrot and monarch butterflies. It is unsigned, but based on Instagram posts, it was painted by Juan Navarro (@luvmonsterz) and Rosie Cortez (@paintedrosy) with help from community volunteers.  It is part of the Park Avenue Art District and near the Eastside Arthouse (@eastsideharthouse).  

Tony's Market Mural on Park Avenue

Tony's Market at 4098 Park Avenue, Riverside exhibits a religious-themed mural on the side of the building.  It is not obviously signed, but has "Sister" and "RT" in small letters below the image of Mary as Our Lady of Guadalupe.  It is part of the Park Avenue Art District near the Eastside Arthouse (@eastsidearthouse).  I might also note that the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Shrine is a little further down the street at the corner of Park Ave. and 9th Street.  

 

Park Avenue Arts District Mural on former Chelas Bakery building

The south side of the former location of Chelas Bakery (4197 Park Ave., Riverside) announces the Park Avenue Arts District with an attractive mural.  The mural is unsigned and just around the corner from the Eastside Arthouse (@eastsidearthouse) suggesting that it most likely was a project initiated by that group, possibly by Juan Navarro (@luvmonsterz) and Rosie Cortez (@paintedrosy) who have been very involved in the revitalization of Park Avenue.  

Colorful Mural on Glass on Branch Building on Park Ave.

On the front of the Branch building next to Lincoln Park (4307 Park Ave., Riverside) is a brightly painted mural on class that, while unsigned, was apparently painted by Juan Navarro (@luvmonsterz).  The Branch is a neighborhood-centered artist-in-residency program to serve the Eastside neighborhood and seems to be closely associated with Eastside Arthouse which is just down the street.  It is part of an Eastside Mural Tour described on the Riverside Art Museum website. Note:  June 2025. This painted mural was replaced and more recently the building has been destroyed for the construction of a new elementary school.  

Pickup Trucks Mural on 14th Street

On the west wall of the Botanica La Caridad building (2856 14th Street, Riverside;  near Park Ave.) is a vibrant mural featuring two older pickup trucks.  The mural was painted by Juan Navarro (@luvmonsterz on Instagram).
