Alleyway Mural of Young Mexican-American Woman

One of the central murals along the alleyway just off of Loma Vista Street near Ottawa Ave. in the Eastside area of Riverside (1948 Loma Vista Street) was painted by Andrea Lopez @art.by.andrealopez.  It is a lovely mural that features a painting of a woman and combines images from the artist's roots in Mexico and those of her life in Riverside. It is entitled, "Hija del Maiz" or Daughter of Corn. The artist narrates a nice reel that gives some background to the mural on the Eastside Arthouse Instagram page @eastsidearthouse. She recently received a fellowship from the California Arts Council which was spotlighted in a Raincross Gazette article.

Alleyway Mural of an Artist Passing on His Paintbrushes

The northern-most mural along the alleyway just off of Loma Vista Street near Ottawa Ave. in the Eastside area of Riverside (1948 Loma Vista Street) was painted by Roberto Cervantes @micorazontepinta.  The mural appears to show an older painter giving his paintbrushes to a younger one.

Alleyway Mural with a Cartoon Depiction of a Desert Scene

The next mural along the alleyway just off of Loma Vista Street near Ottawa Ave. in the Eastside area of Riverside (1948 Loma Vista Street) was painted by Rick Garcia @savethepanduhs. It shows a desert scene with the animals depicted as cartoon figures.

Alleyway Mural of Boy Amidst Archeological Wonders in the Heavens

The southern-most mural along the alleyway just off of Loma Vista Street near Ottawa Ave. in the Eastside area of Riverside (1948 Loma Vista Street) was painted by Alfred Zaragoza @maddtatter. It has images of a Mayan calendar, an Egyptian sphinx, and an eclipse of the sun over pyramids, and a boy gazing at a raincross-emblazoned tablet computer.

Eastside Arthouse Alley Murals Off of Loma Vista Street

The Eastside Arthouse, led by Juan Navarro @luvmonsterz, arranged for five or six muralists to paint murals along an alleyway (1948 Loma Vista Street; just off of Ottawa Ave. and Loma Vista Street) in the Eastside area of Riverside.  This post shows an overview of the project with the sign labeling the project, as well as photos of two of the smaller murals in the middle.  One of the individual murals shows Bryan June Garcia as the artist. The other is unlabeled and the artist is unknown.

The back wall behind the Eastside Arthouse (4177 Park Ave, Riverside, CA) has been painted with a new mural.  It can be seen from the parking lot to the south. The mural is unsigned.

Timoi Mural at University and Victoria Ave.

I recently stumbled upon an older mural featuring three large-eyed cartoon heads near the corner of University and Victoria Avenues (3844 Victoria Ave., Riverside, CA 92507).  The mural is by Susana De Leon who goes by the name of Timoi.  According to their website, Timoi is an acronym that stands for Trapped In My Own Imagination and Trusting In My Own Imagination.

Interiors of the Metal Sculptures at the RTA Transportation Hub and the Adjacent Veterans Park

The intertwined metal sculptures of the Riverside Transit Agency transportation hub across from the Metrolink station (4066 Vine St, Riverside, CA) and the sculpture at the adjacent Vine Street Veterans Park (4125 Vine St, Riverside, CA) photographed from the inside.  The sculptures are unknown.

Madres Brunch Mural on University Ave.

A bright and striking new mural has appeared on the west-facing side of a new business scheduled to open this month called Madres Brunch at 1805 University Ave. (Riverside, CA).  The mural depicts a Marilyn Monroe-like woman amidst desert hills, cacti and fauna.  The artist is Los Angeles-based Mario (@resoe_27).  

The Mexican Hairless Dog Mural on Park Ave.

A new mural has appeared on the south side of the building that houses the Eastside Art House (4177 Park Ave, Riverside, CA). The mural incorporates several images, most prominently a Mexican hairless dog called a xoloitzcuintli. This breed is reported to be 3000 years old and is considered to be the ancient Aztec dog of the gods. An ancient representation of the dog is shown on the left. The artist, Juan Navarro @luvmonsterz, described other aspects of the mural on an Instagram post.  The symbols on the right are textile patterns from Zacatecas, Mexico, the place where his mother was born.  The marigolds symbolize both young and old and represent how culture has been passed down through generations.

God Helps Early Risers Mural

The building that used to house the Cookie Plug business at 2790 14th Street, Riverside sports a new mural on its west-facing side.  The mural advises "El que madruga Dios lo ayuda" which I understand means "Those who rise early, God will help".  The mural is unsigned.  

 

Pyramid Mural Between Park and Howard Avenues

A mural showing several pyramids similar to those at Teotihuacán can be seen on the side of a building between Howard and Park Avenues (4350 Howard Ave, Riverside, CA). The photo with the pyramids below was taken from the vacant lot adjacent to 2944 13th St.  The mural doesn't seem to have been fully completed. It has been at the same stage for about a year or more.  The second photo (seen from 4350 Howard Ave.) seems to have been more recently painted. The artist is unknown. Update: Nov. 2024, the buildings on which the murals were painted have recently been demolished.
