In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Riverside has constructed a number of patriotic displays. This one at the corner of 14th street and the 91 onramp is simple and made up of red, white and blue flowers. The designer and gardener are unknown.

The history of the De Anza Theater with lots of photos is described on a nearby electrical box (4225 Market St, Riverside, CA). The building now houses Clark's Nutrition, a Natural Foods Market. It joins a number of similar historical descriptions on other boxes downtown. The designer and author are unknown.

An attractive new mural has recently been painted on the side of the building housing the Riverside County Office of Education (3610 14th St, Riverside, CA). As shown below, it shows three children playing, learning and building. It was painted by Juan Navarro @luvmonsterz.

A brightly colored new mural entitled, "Flor y Canto" has been painted in the side of the Art Works Gallery - RI International (3741 6th St, Riverside, CA) in downtown. The mural was painted by local muralist Mano Mirande @_mano_man.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the Main Street pedestrian mall in downtown Riverside (3900 Main St.) has recently been renovated. The statue is largely unchanged but the surrounding walkway and seating are new. There are also some plaques with quotes from Dr. King and some recognizing key organizations involved with the memorial. Close-ups of the statue and a view of the old memorial can be found here. The artists involved in designing and creating the new memorial are not known.

The plaza at 3650 11th St, Riverside, CA, outside the Riverside Hall of Justice where the Superior Court of California of Riverside County convenes, has been named after Justice John G. Gabbert, former judge, scholar, and leader in the Riverside community, and a monument has been placed at its entrance in his honor. The archway-shaped monument contains a medallion and summary information on Gabbert's life and contributions to the area. The artist and designer are unknown.

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the City Hall building (3900 Main St, Riverside, CA), new raincross sculpture has been erected on the north side of City Hall along the downtown pedestrian mall. The sculpture was made for the occasion by Rico Alderette @ricoald and his colleagues at Alderette Designs @alderette_designs. Councilman Phillip Falcone and Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson also helped lead the project. This particular raincross appears to have some Japanese influences, possibly related to Riverside's connection to Sendai, its sister city. Note, the similarities between the sculpture and other raincross emblems embedded in the concrete of City Hall.
A large attractive mural recognizing the contributions of Aaron Norris, a prominent Riverside supporter of the arts who died at a young age, and which features key sights in downtown Riverside has been painted near the intersection of University and Lemon Streets (about 3841 Lemon St., Riverside, CA). The mural was painted by local muralist Mano Mirande @_mano_man_.
There is a monument honoring Robert M. Howie for whom the plaza (4080 Lemon St., Riverside, CA) in downtown Riverside is named. It briefly tells of his life and has a medallion-type of sculpture of him. The monument indicates that it is "dedicated to the virtuous, vigorous and independent people who cultivate the earth in Riverside County and to Robert M. Howie who dedicated his life to protecting and promoting agriculture". The designer and artist of the monument are unknown.
