"Let it Shine" Sculpture at La Sierra University

A bright metallic heart-shaped sculpture entitled Let it Shine is found near the top of the La Sierra University campus (4500 Riverwalk Parkway, Riverside). It was sculpted by local sculptor Frank Heyming and dedicated in 2020.  

"Morning Star" Mural at La Sierra University

On the east facing side of the Visual Arts Center 1 building at La Sierra University (4500 Riverwalk Pkwy, Riverside) is a striking mural that, I believe, is entitled, Morning Star and was completed in 2020.  It was painted by Pavel Acevedo (@pavel_acevedo), an artist who was originally from Oaxaca, Mexico and was living at that time in Riverside. According to information on his Instagram account, he has been exploring issues related to "migration, looking at how both humans and animals adapt and adopt new environments as a result of external stresses". 

"Speech Bubbles" Mural at La Sierra University

A clever mural stretches across the east-facing side of Visual Arts Center 2 building at La Sierra University (4500 River Parkway, Riverside). The mural is entitled, Speech Bubbles and was painted by Martha Rich (@martharich63) in 2016 for an exhibit called Women of the New Contemporary.  A description of the exhibit with a photo of the mural can be found in a La Sierra News article. 

 

"Two-Bit" Nature Mural at La Sierra University

A colorful nature mural covers the north-facing side of Visual Arts Center 2 building at La Sierra University (4500 Riverwalk Parkway, Riverside). The mural selectively highlights examples of the native flora and fauna of the La Sierra and Riverside areas.  It is entitled Two-Bit and was painted by Elizabeth Jean Younce (@elizabethjeanyounce) in 2023.  From the La Sierra University CAS Dean's Office Instagram post "The piece is named for Mount Two-Bit which lies just beyond this wall. The design depicts flora and fauna native to the Riverside and specifically La Sierra area, as if you were standing atop Two-Bit, looking Eastward to the snowy peaks of San Bernardino and beyond." There is a sign at the base that identifies the various animals and plants in the painting. 

Rattlesnake Entwined with a Rabbit Mural at La Sierra University

To the right of the east facing side of the Visual Arts Center 1 building at La Sierra University (4500 Riverwalk Pkwy, Riverside) is found a beautiful and interesting mural showing a rattlesnake entwined around a rabbit. It was painted by Velia De Liuliis (@veliadeiuliis) for the Women of the New Contemporary Mural Festival at La Sierra University in 2016. "The Lost Sheep" Sculpture at La Sierra University

To the right of Yeager Drive leading into the center of the La Sierra University campus (4500 Riverwalk Pkwy, Riverside), a third bronze sculpture has been installed that depicts the story of the Good Shepherd finding his lost sheep.  It is one of three sculptures leading to the center of campus which represent parables from the New Testament.  The grouping is entitled The Glory of God's Grace.  The Lost Sheep was sculpted by Victor Issa and was dedicated in 2022 during the centennial year of the university. "The Lost Coin" Sculpture at La Sierra University

To the left of Yeager Drive leading into the center of the La Sierra University campus (4500 Riverwalk Pkwy, Riverside), a bronze sculpture has been installed that depicts the story of "the divine sweeper finding her lost coin".  It is one of three sculptures at the entrance of the academic center of campus.  The sculptures represent parables from the New Testament and the collection is entitled The Glory of God's Grace.  The sculptor of the Lost Coin statue was Victor Issa and the sculpture was dedicated in 2017.

Beyond the fountain where Yeager Drive splits and continues to the center of the La Sierra University campus (4500 Riverwalk Pkwy, Riverside), lies a plaza with a group of sculptures depicting the story of the Return of the Prodigal Son.  This grouping, along with two others, leading to the center of campus represent parables from the New Testament.  The collection is entitled The Glory of God's Grace.  The Prodigal Son grouping was sculpted by the late Alan Collins and was installed in 2002.

Canvas Barbershop Mural

The back of Canvas Barbershop (10571 Magnolia Ave, Riverside) has been painted with a mural of what appears to be the night sky as viewed through a powerful telescope.  The mural is signed @area90art and @canvasbarbershop.

Gandhi Statue and Memorial

A memorial to Mahatma Gandhi is sited within the Main Street pedestrian mall downtown at 3735 Main Street, Riverside.  The bronze sculpture is surrounded by quotes from Gandhi and others, such as "Live simply so that others may simply live".  The statue was created by Indian artists Mandan and Aruna Garge, and the architect for the memorial was the Community Design Group.  The memorial was completed in 2006 and dedicated in January 2007.  It is part of the peace or civil rights walk within the pedestrian mall and is featured in a recent video by the city of Riverside.

Luxe and Local Salon Mural

An inside wall of the Luxe and Local Salon Emporium (3951 Merrill Ave, Riverside) has been painted with a bright and colorful mural depicting an orange flanked by orange blossoms.  It was painted by local muralist Darren Villegas @darren.vs.drama.  

Peace Print

On the side of the building that houses Mario's Place restaurant (3646 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside) is a prominently located enlarged print of the "Peace Tree" by Shepard Fairey.  It appears to be a print on vinyl or fabric.

A Celebration of the Dead in Riverside Mural

A mural that appears to be a celebration of the dead with Riverside and Mexican themes has been painted on a wall in a private lot behind the Farmers Insurance Office at 3939 Merrill Ave., Riverside.  It can be viewed from the northwest corner at the back of the Lucky Greek restaurant at 3887 Merrill Ave. The artist is unknown.
