"Playful", a Dog-themed Electrical Box on Riverwalk Parkway at South Pierce St.

In front of the Riverwalk Dog Park at the corner of Riverwalk Parkway and South Pierce St. (4198 Pierce St, Riverside, CA) is found a colorful and light-hearted dog-themed painting on an electrical box.  The painting is entitled "Playful" and shows happy orange-yellow dogs chasing butterflies. The box was painted by Vanessa Gomez (@imaginevivid_vmg) and is one of six boxes that she painted along Riverwalk Parkway for the City of Riverside Public Works Department.

Graduation-themed Electrical Box at the Corner of Pierce St. and Magnolia Ave.

A colorfully painted electrical box on the corner of Pierce St. and Magnolia Ave. (in front of 3812 Pierce St STE Q, Riverside, CA) shows high school or college graduates in their traditional robes against a background of computer chips, oranges and a bell (presumably part of Riverside's raincross symbol).  The artist is unidentified.

Memorial to Riverside's Chinese Community at Bonaminio Park

A memorial consisting of a small garden with groupings of basalt columns, one of which has an inscription in Chinese characters, is located on the eastern most tip of Ryan Bonaminio Park (5000 Tequesquite Ave, Riverside, CA).  A plaque (shown below) indicates that the garden honors the many contributions of the Chinese community throughout the history of Riverside.  The Chinese characters "welcome visitors into the garden and park".  The park is located close to where Riverside's second Chinatown was once located. The designers and artists involved are not identified.

Castleview Elementary School murals

Castleview Elementary School (6201 Shaker Dr., Riverside) exhibits a small colorful mural showing a friendly dragon, the school's mascot, flanked by banners describing desirable qualities.  It was painted in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the school.  There are four sets of initials (HM, CR, EM and AL) on the bottom indicating that there were multiple artists involved in painting the mural.  Note: This post has been updated as on Saturday morning (6-22-24) I noticed that there was another mural painted on a free-standing wall along the playground.  The artist of that mural does not appear to be identified.

Hillcrest High School Mural

Hillcrest High School (11800 Indiana Ave, Riverside, CA) has a mural that faces the road entering the school's parking lot.  It shows a Trojan helmet, representing the school's mascot next to the word "Pride".  The artist is unidentified.

La Sierra Academy Murals

The La Sierra Academy (4900 Golden Ave, Riverside, CA) sports two murals.  One shows its mascot, a knight, and the other shows the Biblical story of David and Goliath.  The artists who painted the murals are not identified.

"We Are Still Here" Mural Across from the Riverside County Courthouse

A beautiful new mural has recently been painted on the side of a building across from the Riverside County Courthouse (about 3120 Main St, Riverside, CA).  The mural depicts three native Americans - Rose Ann Hamilton of the Cahuilla Band of Indians, Blossom Maciel, a pregnant woman of the Fort Sill Apache Tribe/Mountain Cahuilla tribe, and Genevieve Aranda, a young girl of the Cahuilla/Serrano and Acjachemen tribe, all against a background reflecting the mountains, hills, streams and vegetation of the area.  The mural, entitled "U’mun Chemqal Eppa which means “We are still here” in the native Cahuilla language, is dedicated to the native tribes of Riverside County.  It was painted by Rosy Cortez @paintedrosy with the assistance of native community volunteers and directed by Rosy Aranda.

Riverside Sports Hall of Fame Medallion and Plaques

The Wall of Distinction of the Riverside Sport Hall of Fame contains a distinctive medallion and many bronze plaques cast in relief showing Riverside residents who have excelled in sports or who have shown unusual commitment to athletics.  The Hall of Fame is located at the corner of Magnolia Ave. and 14th Street on the north side of a medical facility and to the south of Newman Park (4444 Magnolia Ave., Riverside). The large medallion and some examples of the bronze plaques are shown below.  The artists who have designed and made the plaques are unknown.  More information about the Hall of Fame can be found on its website.  




Pyramid Mural Between Park and Howard Avenues

A mural showing several pyramids similar to those at Teotihuacán can be seen on the side of a building between Howard and Park Avenues (4350 Howard Ave, Riverside, CA). The photo with the pyramids below was taken from the vacant lot adjacent to 2944 13th St.  The mural doesn't seem to have been fully completed. It has been at the same stage for about a year or more.  The second photo (seen from 4350 Howard Ave.) seems to have been more recently painted. The artist is unknown.

Colorful Riverside-themed Art on Branch Building on Park Ave.

The front of the Branch building next to Lincoln Park (4307 Park Ave., Riverside CA) has a new colorful painting that shows scenes of Park Ave. and Riverside.  The Branch is a neighborhood-centered artist-in-residency program to serve the Eastside neighborhood and seems to be closely associated with Eastside Arthouse which is just down the street. The previous paintings on the building have been replaced by this new tableau.  The responsible artist is unknown.

Riverside Transit Agency Mobility Hub Sculptures and Pathway

The new Riverside Transit Agency mobility hub (4125 Vine St, Riverside, CA) sits across from the Metrolink station and has a themed series of intertwined metal sculptures along a winding path that represent the flowing waters of the Santa Ana River as it begins at Big Bear Lake, travels through Riverside, and ends in the Pacific Ocean. The artists who designed the sculpture and the memorial are unknown. An earlier post of the sculptures before the landscaping and pathway were finished can be found here.

Vine Street Veterans Park Sculpture and Memorial

The Vine Street Veterans Park is located next to the new Riverside Transit Agency mobility transportation hub (4125 Vine St, Riverside, CA) and across from the Metrolink station.  It has an attractive intertwined metal sculpture that compliments those in the nearby transportation hub.  It also has a memorial to those lost in US military conflicts with a special recognition for Gold Star families. The artists who designed the sculpture and the memorial are unknown.
